What's In My Portfolio?

BMEX is going to offer great solutions and insight to investors and when it is time to join the new Exchange - I strongly recommend you joining in.

Until those opportunities become available I wanted to share a little insight about my portfolio: I have a total of 9 investments in mutual funds and individual stocks.

When I first started investing I only wanted 2 to 3 investments so that I could build a large stash in one stock or mutual funds at a time.

As my knowledge grows I found out it's best to be more diversified. Not over board but just enough so when the market takes a hit you can keep on ticking.

I found a person online and he brought over 35 to 50 investments and each had very little in them (1 share here two to 5 shares here). His plan was to build a dividend in which years down the road he could live off of the dividends.

I warned him that he was spread too thin without enough capital to really reach his goal. Next, a dividend is not promised they come and go. That is why picking a strong portfolio of 9 to 13 longer term plays can work for some.

Here are 3 stocks and 1 mutual fund I have in my stash and why?

Stocks

Apple - All of my nieces and nephews, students, and friend's children are in love with the iphone and tries to get a new one every time a new one comes out. Their margins with every product is above their competition, which gives them more profit ability. Next, they are building their business sector with IBM. Next, they have a lot of cash on hand. I own Apple products and will continue to do so. These are the reason why I will always have Apple in my portfolio. One year I lost 18000 from Apple alone and still kept my position (I did reduce it and started increasing my diversity).

Why am I telling you this because in 20 years I see as Apple as my retirement money taking cruises all around the world.

First Solar - Clean energy and the sun unlimited resources makes this an awesome buy. I love First Solar because they are #1 in the solar sector and they have cash to weather a financial storm. Next, they have almost been cut in half year over year. So, I was so happy to purchase this new position this year.

Twilio - Finally took a dip this week for me to purchase it. I love the future of Twilio being brought out in 5 to 10 years for the
software and cloud communications capabilities. Uber, Snapchat, Nordstrom, Box, Coca-Cola, and more companies need Twilio. So, this in my IRA account because its a longterm play.

Mutual Fund

VFINX - Vanguard 500 Index Fund Investor Class

The S&P is a great index fund to be in and with the opportunity for dividends, and low fees (.16%), it's a win win. Plus, Warren Buffet instructed his children and wife to put their money in the VFINX when he dies because that will be the safest place.

If its good for Warren Buffet and his children it is good enough for me.

All of these plays or at least a 10 to 20 year play and possibly longer.

I never worry about the ups and downs of my investments because longterm is the name of the game.
